Bean: Village must cash in
North Village striker Ralph Bean Jr has urged the Rams to take their goalscoring chances in tonight's Dudley Eve semi-final showdown against Devonshire Cougars at Somerset Cricket Club.
Village and Cougars will fight it out for a place in the Dudley Eve final, where they will face the winner of tonight's second semi-final between Dandy Town and PHC.
Kwame Steede's Cougars won the first match between the two sides, a Premier Division encounter 1-0, in what was a very closely contested encounter.
This time around, though, Village talisman Bean believes it will be a far more open type of match.
"Finishing will be the difference in the game," said Bean. "Whoever puts their chances away will win. We last played each other in a tense match and I expect this to be more open than that one.
"But it's a derby, our matches against Cougars are always good games and anything can happen.
"I think it will be more open this time around as these games usually are and whoever takes the most chances will win the game. We are taking this game in our stride just like every other game. It is an important game and we will prepare and focus how we always do."
Recent seasons have seen the Rams start slowly, but that hasn't been the case this year with Shaun Goater's men having a consistent opening month of the campaign.
Teenage striker Jason Lee, who joined from FC Bascome, has especially caught the eye, although Village will have to make do without left-back Logan Alexander who signed professional terms with National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) outfit, Baltimore Blast on Monday.
Although Bean concedes that tonight's match is the biggest of the season so far, he believes the result will not shape Village's season.
"It isn't a strong start, but more of a consistent one which I think comes from a good pre-season," said Bean.
"We have started better this season then in previous seasons. We have a lot of guys still coming out and working hard so we are still reaping the benefits of the hard work We won't think about losing games, but if we should we will take it like any other loss, although it is a big match for the first cup of the season.
"You have to take wins just how you take your losses, and if it should happen then we will look forward to the rest of our campaign."
North Village and Devonshire Cougars kick off at 7pm, while Dandy Town and PHC lock horns at 9 pm. Hornets will be striving to build on their much-needed 3-1 over Somerset Trojans in last weekend's Premier Divison.
