Richold rides high in GP
yesterday to finish an impressive third in the $5,000 Grand Prix at the Bermuda Showjumping Classic at the Botanical Gardens.
Richold, riding her 13-year-old mount Filthy Rich, overcame the damp, overcast weather to finish behind winner Peter Eriksson, from Sweden, and runner-up, Laura Chapot, of the US.
Earlier Philip Correira had claimed his second title of the weekend by winning the Modified Pony Grand Prix on El Greco. He had enjoyed a narrow victory over Lauren Mahoney on Royal Fortune in the Open Pony Jumping which started Saturday's competition.
Other locals to perform well yesterday included Rayman Butterfield and Cole Simmons, who picked up fifth and sixth places respectively in the Open Horse Stakes, which was won by Harry Marshall of Northern Ireland.
Stacey Whitecross took first place in the Novice Horse Competition with a double clear round in the fastest time on By Design and Gemman Morrison took the honours in the Novice Horse Stakes.
The Team Cup Competition, in which the international riders headed teams of local competitors, provided great excitement to close Saturday's proceedings.
A five-way tie meant the professionals had to ride off against each other.
Harry Marshall ended up leading the Green Team to victory, with Canadian Jill Henselwood's Red Team second.
