Equestrian Tyler Lopes won the freestyle test at the Children of the Americas Dressage Invitational in the USA over the weekend with a score of 76.608 percent and placed second overall.

Held in Concord, Massachusetts, the competition took place over three days. Lopes also placed second on Friday with a score of 70 percent in the FEI Children's Preliminary Test.

He was voted by his fellow competitors to ride the adult freestyle event on Sunday, which was judged by the audience.

"The Bermuda Equestrian Federation (BEF) wishes to congratulate Tyler, one of our junior riders on this magnificent result against some of the best competitors from the Caribbean, North, Central and South America," said Mike Cherry, president of the BEF.

The youngster was selected for the third time to represent Bermuda at the Invitational meet.

Started in 2007, the competition is for 12-14 year-olds and includes riders from Latin America, the United States and Canada.

Jones honoured

Former Devonshire Colts football coach Ray Jones has been inducted into Longwood University's Athletic Hall of Fame following his goalscoring exploits at the Virginia school from 1987 to 1990.

The prolific striker still owns nearly every school record, including career goals (70) and hat-tricks (8) and was a four-time All-Region selection.

He will receive his honour on Saturday, November 14 in the Dorrill Dining Hall on-campus.
