A second half strike from youngster Eldonte Smith saw Blazers leapfrog Hornets in the league table to finish Premier Division runners-up.

Smith had only minutes earlier left the pitch feeling unwell but he returned to the action to become his team's matchwinner at BAA Field yesterday.

Blazers' victory could have been by a greater margin had referee Anthony Francis not ruled Michael Parson's late goal offside.

Andrew Bascome, Blazers coach, said the win might just have tilted the "psychological advantage" in his side's favour ahead of next month's FA Cup final against Hornets at the National Sports Centre.

"Although we couldn't win the league it was important to finish as high up the table as possible," said Bascome. who took over as Blazers coach at the start of the season.

"I've been very pleased with how the season has gone for us. We've finished runners-up in the league, the Dudley Eve and we have the FA Cup final to prepare for.

"We don't the best training facilities but I'm proud of my players' performances."

Bascome added that the late season return of defender Stanton Lewis from a long-term knee injury had give his team a lift, but cautioned against the veteran featuring for Bermuda Hogges this campaign.

"Stanton brings a lot of experience to our team, but it's probably too soon for him to start thinking about the Hogges as he's just returned"

Blazers had been trailing Hornets by two points before yesterday's final league fixture.
