Volunteers are needed this weekend to help rid a beauty spot of trash dumped by fly tippers.

Keep Bermuda Beautiful is to clean up Lodge Point Lane from 9 a.m. to midday on Saturday. A KBB spokeswoman said: "We need all hands on deck, so please make a special effort to be there.

"The area is constantly the focus of fly tippers who have no concern for members of the public who come here to camp, picnic and fish. KBB has been out to this location several times to clean up."

The charity however, is hopeful the dumpers will now be stopped in their tracks with the installation of a set of gates by the West End Development Corporation and the Parks Department. The spokeswoman said: "New gates, a generous donation from the Parks Department, will be installed by Wedco."

A crane truck from the Ministry of Works and Engineering's Waste Management department will also assist in the clean-up, together with Government trucks to transport the waste.

To take part in the clean-up, go past the Naval Cemetery at Dockyard, at the bottom of a grassy hill, and head past a terrace of housing.

At the bottom of the hill take the road off to the right until you see the sign Lodge Point Lane. The site is just a short distance from the car park.

A rain date has been set for March 28. For more information, contact KBB at: 295 5142.
