Man crashes car after drinking
A 24-year-old who spent the afternoon in a bar was arrested when he crashed his car on Reid Street.
Kristopher Sannaemalm, of Woodbourne Avenue, Pembroke, told Police he spent Sunday afternoon at Docksiders Pub on Front Street.
After he left the pub, he was driving along Reid Street when another vehicle drove close to him. Sannaemalm swerved to avoid the car and struck a utility pole.
Though he escaped unharmed from the accident, his car had extensive damage with broken windows and scratches along the side.
He admitted that he had been drinking when Police arrived. His breathalyser showed 205 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80 milligrams.
He pleaded guilty when he appeared at Magistrates' Court and was fined $1,000 and suspended from driving all vehicles for one year.
Another man, Stephen Easton, pleaded guilty to drink driving in Magistrates' Court.
The court heard that Easton, of Clarendon Road, Hamilton was driving erratically along Front Street at 1.30 a.m. on December 23 when Police noticed him.
They followed him and stopped him near the Devonshire post office. Police said he had trouble putting his bike on the stand and reeked of alcohol.
He too was fined $1,000 and suspended from driving all vehicles for one year.
