Stars seek revenge as cup rivals clash again

Camel Cup opponents St. George's and Western Stars will meet in the quarter-finals of the Knockout Cup tomorrow at Wellington Oval in a match fitting of the final itself.

It will be the third meeting this season between St. George's and Stars, with the east enders having won both encounters and now seeking a third to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Stars, who meet Police in the final of the Central Counties next Saturday, are already entering their most crucial stage of the season.

Failure tomorrow and next weekend would leave them with just the two league titles to battle for, just a few weeks after they were seen as the team to beat this season.

Four other interesting matches are set for Saturday as Southampton Rangers and Bailey's Bay meet for the second straight weekend. Unlike their high scoring drawn match in the Open League last Sunday, this time a winner will emerge from their clash at Southampton Oval.

Bay were the odd team out in the round of 15 and received a bye to this round but now they can expect to have their hands full with Rangers who will be led by allrounder Janeiro Tucker, last weekend's century-maker.

Previously, St. David's would have been favoured over their Eastern Counties rivals, Flatts, but times have changed. Flatts have made a winning start to the season in the First Division, thanks to some key signings, namely player-coach Dwayne Leverock, so St. David's will expect a tough match at Lord's.

Warwick, beaten quite convincingly by Flatts last weekend, meet Police for the second time this season when they travel to Police Field.

Warwick's players were challenged following last weekend's loss to show more commitment after a couple of players arrived late for the Flatts game.

They will need a bigger effort to get by a Police team who enjoyed a good batting performance against Cleveland last Sunday when Peter Philpott scored 92 not out, Ferdinand Thorne 77 and Andrew Rollins 67 in their massive total of 283 against Cleveland.
