BCL and BAS rocket
There were six climbers and seven decliners among domestic issuers on a busy and positive week of trading on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.
The broad trading activity sent The Royal Gazette / BSX Index up by 51.87 points, or 2.4 percent, to 2,125.83.
The biggest advance over the five days of trading was achieved by shipping company Bermuda Container Line Ltd., which climbed $3.45, or 36.1 percent, to close on $13 at Friday's close, on thee trading of 2,000 shares.
Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. also made a huge stride, gaining 16.8 percent in the week that it gave up its private-jet services exclusive rights, which had been due to go through until 2014. Government announced a settlement with the company this week, which is thought to have involved a substantial payment to BAS, although no amount has yet been made public.
BAS shares climbed 85 cents to $5.90, as 13,655 shares changed hands.
Other notable climbers included West Hamilton Holdings Ltd., which gained 15 percent on the trading of 500 shares, and insurer Argus Group Holdings Ltd., which climbed 40 cents, or 4.4 percent, to close the week on $9.50, as 9,277 shares traded. Ascendant Group Ltd., owner of electricty company Belco, gained 3.3 percent as 10,604 shares traded, and Butterfield Bank also enjoyed a positive week, climbing 10 cents, or 2.5 percent, to finish the week on $4.10.
Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. suffered a 6.4 percent fall in the week of its 40th anniversary, dipping 35 cents to $5.10, as 11,222 shares changed hands.
KeyTech Ltd., owner of the Bermuda Telephone Company, also shed 55 cents, or 6.5 percent, to $7.95, on the trading of 1,100 shares.
Insurer BF&M Ltd. declined 1.3 percent, as its shares fell 20 cents to $15.80, as 10,550 changed hands.
Share volume was more than 148,000 and turnover for the week was close to $1.4 million.
