A fishing boat is about to attempt a high-speed offshore record crossing from the US to Bermuda.

The new Contender 37 centre console craft will aim to beat the current time of 29 hours, 30 minutes to the Island.

Chuck Arnold, Northeast Sales Manager for Contender Boats, will attempt the high-speed record with the latest in marine electronics and underwater lighting, supplied by Win-Tron Electronics.

The stepped-hull boat will leave Manhattan, New York, powered by three Yamaha 350 horsepower four-stroke outboards.

Edward A. Winder, President of Win-Tron Electronics, is one of three passengers to accompany Mr. Arnold in his bid.

"He plans to run his boat at 44 knots from the Statue of Liberty to Bermuda non-stop," said Mr. Winder.

The latest in navigational and electronics equipment includes the new Simrad NSE12 Series chart plotter/multifunction display and GPS system.

The vessel will also have a trackable GPS system to continually feed live position data via satellite, to track its progress. Aqualuma has supplied three underwater and four above-deck cameras to record the action.

The boat will also be equipped with a GlobalFix PRO Epirb supplied by ACR Electronics and an Aqua Link personal locator beacon. Ameratrail Trailers is supplying a custom-built trailer and Ocean View Electronics is providing night vision cameras.
