BPWA holds seminar

ECONOMICALLY trying times calls for financial prudence and reassurance, says the head of a local women's professional organisation.

To help people gain the confidence and wisdom they need during the global downtown, the Business and Professional Women's Association of Bermuda (BPWA), is hosting a public educational seminar tomorrow entitled "Financial Planning in Turbulent Times", featuring wealth management experts from the Bank of Bermuda.

"Financial planning is always a good topic to get direction for your future," said Patty-Ann Flood, president of BPWA. "However, with the economic climate we feel it is even more pertinent right now to help people cope with how to manage their money."

The BPWA, a chapter of the international organisation International Federation of Business and Professional Women, was founded more than 30 years ago, in 1975, by Dr. Marjorie Bean.

The focus of the association is the promotion of women's professional interests, advocate women and children's issues, and assist young women with their educational aspirations. While the BPWA mainly focuses on women's issues, the seminar, to be held at the Hamilton Princess, is open to everyone.

"Anyone can come, we look at this as a public service event," she explained.

"I believe people in general need to be reassured that what they are doing with their money is taking them in the right direction. I have heard many people not just women, feeling uncomfortable about their savings and keeping it safe."

The 36-member strong association is asking people to pre-register for the event but will accept people at the door if possible.

"Because space is limited we would prefer that people contact us prior to this event to ensure there is space, however if someone should turn up and we have space, we will accommodate them," said Ms Flood.

To register for the event, which begins at 9.30 a.m. (buffet breakfast at 8 a.m.) tomorrow, e-mail bpwabermudayahoo.com or call 732-5896.
