The Corporation will next week advertise for applications to set up a nightclub on the lower level of Number 6 Shed which is currently used as a cycle park. See Editorial on Page 4 .

The move could be a boon for local entertainers, who have been hit by lack of employment and job losses to foreigners.

Corporation secretary Mr. Roger Sherratt said the city would require the nightclub operator to "feature live entertainment by Bermudian performers.'' It is believed the initiator of the nightclub idea is Bermudian Mr. Nelson Hunt.

Mr. Sherratt declined to comment on Mr. Hunt's plan, saying only that the nightclub idea had come to it in the form of a proposal.

"This proposal was initially made to both the Corporation and the Minister of Tourism some time ago,'' he said. "Meetings have been held between the Corporation and the Premier and the Minister of Tourism. It is felt that such a nightclub would enhance the night life of Hamilton, and would also provide additional employment to many of our local entertainers.'' Mr. Sherratt said the plan was that the nightclub would provide Caribbean or Island music.

The secretary said Tourism's airport exit surveys have consistently shown visitors find the Island's night life is unsatisfying and not Bermudian.

"This fills a void and provides employment for Bermudian performers,'' he said. "Airport exit polls show clearly visitors' major complaint is there is not the type of entertainment in Hamilton that they would enjoy.'' Applicants for the nightclub will be asked to contact the City Engineer at City Hall.
