Insurance chief in Bermuda
UK P&I Club chairman Aleco Kairis was in Bermuda last week for a series of meetings with his fellow directors and the Club's managers, Thomas Miller (Bermuda) Ltd.
Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Clubs insure the world's shop owners against third party risks such as crew and passenger claims, collisions, cargo loss and damage, and oil and pollution clean up costs. The UK P&I Club is the largest, insuring some 20 percent of the world's shipowners. It was founded in Bermuda in 1969 and is controlled by an international board of directors elected by the shipowners, with day-to-day management delegated to Thomas Miller.
While in Bermuda, Mr. Kairis met with Bermuda Monetary Authority supervisor Jeremy Cox as well as representatives of leading insurance and reinsurance companies based on the Island. "The UK Club is very happy to be based in Bermuda," said Mr. Kairis. "We have been here for more than 30 years, and it is very encouraging to see the development of the insurance market here, particularly in recent years."
