Tough lessons learned for Bermuda’s youngsters

Bermuda Cricket Board’s National Academy players are learning some harsh lessons about the English conditions during their tour of the UK, after the Under 13s saw the rain ruin their chance of victory against Hatherley and Reddings CC this week.Hatherley and Reddings were dismissed for 122 in 29.1 overs of their 30-over contest as J. Basden led the bowling for the Bermuda youngsters with three for 21 from six overs. F. Swan claimed two for eight and S. Tucker claimed two for 15 in support.Chasing 123 for victory, the Under 13s were 40 without loss when rain came and prevented any further play. Captain Nzari Paynter and T. Brown were both 19 not out.The Under 13s suffered a 122 run loss to Walmley in a 30-over-a-side match in the West Midlands. Walmley scored 173-2 in their 30 overs as Basden and Brown had one for 11 and one for 19 respectively in the bowling. Bermuda could only manage 51-9 from their 30 overs, with seven batsmen bowled as they struggled to adjust to the conditions.The Under 15s also went down against Walmley, losing by 61 runs in a 40 overs match which saw Walmley bat first and score 188. Three Bermuda bowlers took two wickets; JahTino Richardson-Martin had two for eight from three overs, Sheldon Caesar two for 17 from 5.4 overs and Alex Dore two for 37 from eight.Opener Yanji Durham scored 35 as Bermuda replied with 127 all out in 25 overs. Denar Johnson scored 28 and Micah Simons and Jai-Onni Outerbridge 14 apiece.
