Unbeaten Village under early pressure

Any one of five teams could be leading the Coca Cola First Division standings after this weekend's third round of matches.

North Village will attempt to hold onto top spot but they have Dandy Town, Southampton Rangers, Wolves and Devonshire Colts, all within a win of claiming the leadership.

The Red Devils are the only team with maximum points from two matches, but they face a tough fixture against Colts who stopped Vasco in the semi-finals of the Martonmere Cup in their last outing.

Colts are one of the four teams just two points behind Village. And if they can manage to halt Village's winning start, it could mean a change at the top of the standings.

Two of the other teams within striking distance of the top spot, Dandy Town and Southampton Rangers will meet at St. John's Field in the day's top match.

The two teams have identical records as well as a similar goal difference and their match could be just as close.

Wolves, another team on four points, should be confident of victory at Wellington Oval where last season's promotion partners, Hamilton Parish, stage their first home game.

Wolves have a win and a draw while the Hot Peppers have lost both their matches so far to Village and Town by 2-1 margins.

And with three teams going down at the end of this season, they will be desperate to pick up their first points.

Tonight at Somerset, the Trojans, also still without a win, host Boulevard as Trojans coach Andrew Bascome and striker Rodney Bascome meet their former team. The 7.00 opener sees Ireland Rangers playing Paget.

Tomorrow's other match has bottom team Devonshire Cougars taking on defending champions Vasco at Devonshire Rec.

That match was postponed on Thursday night because of the rain and, like Somerset, Boulevard and Parish, these two teams are also searching for their first league wins of the season.

The top match in the Second Division will be between first and second-placed PHC and St. David's at Lord's. Both suffered defeats last weekend when they went down 1-0 in the first round of the FA Cup. However, clinching the lone promotion spot remains their priority and both will be anxious to come away from tomorrow's match with all three points.

In the other matches, St. George's meet Prospect at Wellington Oval and Somerset Eagles play Social Club at White Hill Field.

Today's Commercial League match between Devonshire Lions and Valley at Devonshire Rec. has been postponed and rescheduled for November 7 at the same venue.

All matches in the Shell Youth Under 19 League scheduled for this morning have been postponed due to Bermuda's involvement in the Junior World Cup preliminary round second leg against St. Vincent last night.
