the Sylvia Eastley Trophy as their reward for a string of fine performances at Bernard Park.

Formerly known as Coca-Cola, the Cardinals' women showed that they still have some fizz in winning several close matches on their way to the title.

Starting out with a 5-3 victory against North Village, they then went on to emerge on the better side of a 9-8 result with PCC in the quarter-finals.

Defending First Division champions AICO, who had earlier edged by Hamilton Parish 15-14, kept the Cardinals scoring in check during their semifinal, however were equally ineffective themselves and lost 5-4.

By contrast the final was a more free-scoring affair between 7-Up Netts and Cardinals, as both were able to better locate the goal.

Netts' road to the final went through Warwick Redbirds (default), PCC II (17-0) and Olympic Panthers (8-7), but ended at Cardinals, whom they found to be an insurmountable road-block.

Meanwhile, the next day witnessed action commencing in the Second Division, with routs the order of the day.

Olympic Panthers gained the early league leadership role on the basis of their 52-5 pummelling of AICO, in a match virtually decided by the end of the first quarter.

A similar feast occurred at the Boulevard versus Netts contest, that had the latter performing a 40-11 roasting.

Other matches saw 7-Up Netts blast Wolves 53-24 and newcomers Running Rebels defeat fellow rookies Cooper and Lines 25-2.
