'She's the mother of Britain and the Commonwealth'

Bernard Kane claims to be the Queens number one fan

Bernard Kane is the self-proclaimed biggest fan of the Queen and he was ecstatic when she arrived in St. George's for the first part of her visit to Bermuda.

A teacher at the Menuhin Foundation, he is originally from Wales and adores the Monarch and what she stands for.

"I'm a huge fan of the Queen. Basically growing up, my grandmother lived through the war and they were huge fans.

"They were always telling me about the Queen Mother and the King and how they stayed in London during the bombings."

He continued: "One of my earliest memories of celebrating the Queen was the silver Jubilee in 1977. It was huge, it was massive."

Asked why he is such a fan of the Queen, Mr Kane said: "There is the history. She's the head of the Commonwealth.

"It's not just the British that look up to her, there's many countries that look up to her.

"She's been in the limelight since she was 25 and she's never stepped out of place. She dedicated her life to her people."

Asked what he thought about his fellow countrymen who want to end the monarchy, Mr. Kane said: "I think a lot of people who are anti-monarchist see it as having a lot of money and not giving it back, but she does.

"She's the mother of Britain and the Commonwealth. It's a very important thing."

The last time Mr. Kane saw the Queen was back in 2003 and he was elated when she said 'hello' to him yesterday.

"I saw her in Wales and she was opening the Welsh Assembly. I said 'lovely to see you, your Majesty'. It was incredible. She did a walkabout.

"She's just a people person. The kids just light up. She's just another human being. I think she's great."
