Courts to expand services as Covid restrictions relaxed
Bermuda’s courts will expand services this week as Covid-19 restrictions are gradually lifted.
Alexandra Wheatley, the Supreme Court Registrar, said in a circular dated May 27 that criminal record checks would resume yesterday and Supreme Court jury trials will be permitted to go ahead.
Searches of the Supreme Court Cause Book will be allowed by appointment only, however the courts will also make available an electronic copy of the book to keep law firms aware of new matters.
Magistrates’ Court trials and hearings will be held in person, however traffic court sessions will be divided among three court rooms to limit the number of people in each.
The cashiers desk at Magistrates’ Court will be open between 9am and 4.30pm, apart from a lunch break between 1pm and 2.15pm.
The Registrar added: “We will continue to review and monitor the above to determine whether they should be extended and/or expanded.
“The public will be advised concerning any changes.
“We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate through these unprecedented times, and apologise for any inconvenience the reduction in services may cause.”
