Still a chance to get aboard for Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge
Young people still have an opportunity to sign up for the challenge of a lifetime.
The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 still has trainee berths available for persons aged 15-30 wanting to take part in a historic 7,000 nautical mile journey across the North Atlantic.
The race to mark Bermuda's 400th Anniversary of permanent settlement starts in Vigo, Spain, on May 3. And Bermuda's own Spirit of Bermuda will be among the craft racing across the ocean.
The first port of call is Tenerife, followed by Bermuda, Charleston, Boston and Halifax. Then the ships race back across the Atlantic to Belfast, Northern Ireland.
So far, more than 60 young Bermudians have gained places as sail trainees on various ships. Anyone else interested should apply via the Tall Ships Bermuda website on www.tallshipsbermuda.com.
Bermuda's Tall Ships Festival takes place on Front Street between June 11-15. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the event, which is sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda Foundation.
For members of the public wanting to enjoy a VIP experience on the tall ships, a Captain's Club Pass is available for $300. This gives the holder VIP entry to the hospitality ship, the Spirit of Bermuda, and entry to the Fort St. Catherine viewing party for the Parade of Sail. Only 300 passes are available.
Organisations and businesses can, however, book a special party on one of the tall ships.
Sponsorship is also available for businesses wanting to take part in the Island's festival events.
