100 Day Challenge hits 60,000 miles!
Participants in the 100 Day Challenge have walked the length of Bermuda 2,756 times since the beginning of the fitness initiative.
After 30 days into the Live Healthy Bermuda 100 Day Challenge, a total of 4,037 pounds have been lost and more than 15,158 hours of activity recorded.
That activity translates into 60,633 miles or more than 2,500 times the length of Bermuda.
But Terry Faulkenberry of Aspen Insurance, one of the organisers of the challenge, encouraged everyone to keep going.
He said: "This is fantastic and if we keep on this track, we could reach a weight loss target of more than 10,000 pounds and log activity equivalent to walking nearly 200,000 miles.
"It may get a little tougher around the mid-point but with the momentum we have now, I think it is achievable. That would really be something for Bermuda to be proud of.
"These numbers prove that the participants are not only making a difference in their own personal health but in changing the shape of Bermuda."
There are 2,300 participants representing 379 teams involved in the 100 Day Challenge, which was sponsored by Bermuda Diabetes Association, Lindo's Supermarkets, Aspen Insurance, the Department of Health and Quaker Oats.
When the initiative launched 30 days ago, more than 163 people weighed in with a total weight of 32,198.5 pounds — 13,542 pounds of that was purely fat.
The average body fat was 40.67 percent and the largest person to weigh-in was 490 pounds.
Though it is already 30 days into the initiative, if you are interested in joining the challenge you can find information and sign-up at:www.livehealthybermuda.org.
