Jurors had been called to Supreme Court for the expected trial of Andre Terrance Minors for attempting to murder Ms Crystal Pearman on October 13, 1991.

But when the charge was read out to him, 28-year-old Minors bowed his head, paused and replied: "Guilty.'' Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr. Justice Ward dismissed the jurors.

Minors' lawyer, Ms Patricia Harvey, asked for sentence to be postponed so a witness could attend court and an extension of Minors' legal aid could be arranged.

The case was adjourned until July 2, with Minors remanded in custody. The judge ordered a social inquiry report be prepared.

Ms Pearman, who was stabbed and suffered permanent damage to an arm, received a record $70,000 in compensation from the Criminal Injuries (Compensation) Board.
