Four artists, four different approaches
An exhibition by four artists with different approaches to their interpretation of the word 'twisted', opens at the Bermuda Society of Arts this evening.
Aubrey Hardy, Suzie Lowe, Rachel Furbert and Sundee Faulkner will showcase ceramics created especially for the upcoming show.
"The theme of the show evolved later once we started seeing where everyone's concepts were taking them and twisted seemed to be a common thread that would work for all of us," said Mrs Faulkner.
The 'twist' in their work is different for each artist.
"Some pieces are physically twisted, apparent in their form such as the large stoneware Gaia sculptures and delicate tree like vases by Aubrey," Mrs Faulkner added.
"A psychological twist is more subtly found in the titles of the series of sculptural terracotta figures by Suzie.
"For decorator Rachel, she has focused on improving her skills as a potter and it is mastering the twisting motion of the potter's wheel that is needed to create her mugs and yunomi teacups.
"While I have chosen to take a different route from my commercial work and to focused on pieces of social commentary. Many of the pieces are not what they first appear to be involving a twist of the expected."
All the work is in clay, but some pieces will include mixed media elements.
Mrs Faulkner added: "Some of the work in the show will be functional whilst other pieces are decorative by nature or social commentaries in context."
The exhibit opening runs from 5.30pm until 7pm at the BSoA gallery in City Hall.
