Parish have got Town’s number, says Burgess

Cup hopes: Hamilton Parish goalkeeper Nigel Burgess

Nigel Burgess, the Hamilton Parish Hot Peppers goalkeeper, believes that his team can continue to be Dandy Town’s bogey team this season when they meet in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Parish, who defeated the league leaders at the weekend, were pitted against Town in today’s draw at Bermuda Football Association headquarters on Cedar Avenue.

There will be a First Division team in the last four after Robin Hood and St George’s Colts came out of the hat together, but the pick of the ties features Devonshire Cougars, the cup-holders, against Somerset Trojans next Friday night at Devonshire Recreation Club. It will be the second successive Friday night meeting of the clubs, who will lock horns this week at the same venue, in what can now be described as a cup dress rehearsal.

The remaining match is between Southampton Rangers against North Village, who drew 1-1 in the league at Bernard Park on Sunday, courtesy of two well-taken free kicks.

Parish have yet to lose to Town this season and Burgess is confident his team can continue their good cup form this season. The Hot Peppers reached the Friendship Trophy final at the National Sports Centre, where they folded tamely against Somerset.

“I guess we have got the best of [Dandy Town] so far this season and hopefully we can take that into our next game against them,” Burgess said.

“Our victory over them at the weekend certainly generates confidence in the team. Dandy Town are a top-class team, however, and it will always be a tough game against them.

“It’s always a spirited battle against Dandy Town but if we play the way we can play, we can stick with any team in the league.”

Joel Duffy, the Robin Hood defender, admitted his side were more than content to be drawn against First Division rivals.

“There are two First Division clubs left and I guess we will both be happy to have drawn each other,” Duffy said.

“We can definitely win this game. I don’t think we’re too far away from the Premier Division teams; we would have a chance regardless of who we played.

“It will be a tough game, as we will be away from home, but we will give it all we have and see what happens.

“Our main goal this season is promotion and we’re optimistic in the league and the cup.”
