BSX falls 1.1% despite KeyTech surge
KeyTech Ltd surged more than 13 percent on low volume trading last week.
The owner of the Bermuda Telephone Company gained 70 cents to close on $6 as 751 of its shares traded.
But KeyTech’s double-digit gain was not enough to prevent a fall of 12.57 points, or 1.08 percent, in The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange Index, which closed the week on 1,157.23.
The fall was mostly down to a 3.4 percent decline in the common share price of Butterfield Bank, which has the Index’s largest market capitalisation. Butterfield fell five cents to close on $1.40 as almost 12,000 shares traded. The bank’s preference shares also fell by $12.85, or 1.1 percent, to close on $1,182, as 175 shares changed hands.
Bermuda National Ltd, which has changed its name to Somers Ltd and which owns Bermuda Commercial Bank, had a positive week, gaining 40 cents, or 3.3 percent, to close on $12.40 as 7,200 shares changed hands.
Volume for the five trading days topped 20,200 shares, while turnover was more than $318,000.
