A short history of Bermuda

July 9, 2011Dear Sir,There once was a beautiful, idyllic island in the Atlantic Ocean. One night, during an horrific hurricane, a passing British vessel was shipwrecked off the coast. The bedraggled survivors made their way ashore and in the process of their exploration discovered a wonderful cow living on the rich pastures in the valley. The cow gave cash when milked rather than liquid milk. The survivors sailed back to England with their pockets filled with cash and thus began the British migration to Bermuda. The English flourished and in the course of time other nationals arrived to milk the cow which was now named . … cash-cow. The Americans, the Canadians, the Portuguese and the Italians all journeyed to the Island, carving out their niches in the landscape, milking cash-cow and prospering. Unfortunately, as each group milked and flourished, they also depleted the resources on which cash-cow thrived. Soon the land was covered in concrete and the lush grasslands began to wither and die. In addition, cash-cow was now getting on in years and in the ageing process everything becomes less productive. And then came emancipation, but it was too late! Cash-cow had expired.LITTLE WILLIAMSON OR IS IT BIG WILLIAMSONDevonshire
