Water machine can boost your health, claims entrepreneur

A young Bermudian entrepreneur is promoting the benefits of a machine that churns out water that is more in tune with your body than most bottled mineral waters. That is the claim of Michael Lindo, a 24-year-old entrepreneur, who believes that LeveLuk SD501 purifying and ionising machine has significant benefits for health. The key factor is the pH, the scale that measures acidity and alkalinity. Doctors say the human body’s optimum pH is between 7.35 and 7.45. A low pH, indicating acidity, can hamper cellular functions and can even cause disease. Many of the foods in a typical western diet cause acidity to build up, as do the pharmaceutical products we take, leaving the body fighting a constant battle to raise pH.Drinking a lot of water is seen as a defence against acidity build-up - but the pH of the water itself is important. The machine, made by US firm Enagic, allows the user to set the pH at the level desired. High-pH water, between 8.5 and 9.5, is known as ‘Kangen’ water (named for a Japanese word meaning ‘back to origin’) is supposed to be the best for drinking.Mr Lindo is a representative of a distributor of the machine, which is made in California.“It ionises the water and puts it through a filter to take out all of the chemicals, like iron and chlorine,” Mr Lindo said. “I’ve had this machine at home and drinking this water just makes me feel healthier and more energetic.“In Japan, this has been popular for years. There are machines like these in 400,000 Japanese homes. They are starting to become more aware of it in the US as well.”The machine, which connects to the tap, can also produce low pH (2.7 and lower), or acidic water, which can has disinfecting properties, or ‘beauty water’, claimed to be good for the skin, which has a pH of 5 to 6.‘Clean water’, with a neutral pH of 7, is recommended for taking with medicines or for making baby formula. ‘Strong kangen’, with a pH of 11 and higher, can be used for removing grease. The machine does not come cheap, however. Mr Lindo said the SD501 cost $3,980. With duty and shipping added on, he could deliver it for a total cost of around $5,000.Mr Lindo, who has been using the machine at home for just over two weeks, said it was worth every cent. “You can’t put a price on good health,” he said. His own sense of wellbeing had already improved dramatically.Family and friends have also been drinking the kangen water and have felt better as a result. Losing weight through suppressing appetite and boosting energy levels have been two of the benefits they have discovered.Mr Lindo, who works as a caddy at the Mid Ocean Club, got the idea to bring in the machine after seeing it demonstrated in New York.“People don’t realise what they’re putting into themselves and the impact it has on their health,” he said.To demonstrate, he performed a pH test on two well-known brands of bottled water. One tested close to neutral, while the other was acidic. For more information, contact Mr Lindo on 518-0268, or at m_lindo[AT]hotmail.com or see the website of the manufacturer at www.enagic.com
