Cadets go through final drills before Queen's arrival
It's not everyday that young people in Bermuda are asked to form an Honour Guard for the Queen but that's exactly what one group will be doing tomorrow.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will arrive on the Island for a three-day visit, that will see them first go to St. George's.
There they will be greeted by the Bermuda Sea Cadets who have been asked to form an Honour Guard for the Royal couple as they arrive in the Old Town.
"The cadets are both excited and nervous because most if not all, including the officers, have never been involved with any ceremony involving the Royal Family," said Dwayne Trott, commander of the Bermuda Sea Cadets.
Mr. Trott added: "It is indeed both a privilege and honour to be selected to provide an Honour Guard for the Queen.
"The entire Corp takes this opportunity seriously and the select few involved will be a well disciplined, highly polished group of young men and ladies on parade.
"In preparation for this visit the officers and cadets had an overnight camp where they polished boots, brass, bayonets and rifles."
According to Denise Woodhouse, Commissioner for the Girl Guides in Bermuda, they will also be represented at proceedings in St. George's
"Two Brownies, two Rainbow guides and two guides have been selected to represent Girl Guides in St. George's. In addition there will be 18 international delegates.
"The girls, whose ages range from five to 15, are very excited and have been busy polishing their badges and making sure everything is in order for the day."
Several other youth organisations, including Cub Scouts, will also be in attendance tomorrow.
On Wednesday, the Duke of Edinburgh will present the Duke of Edinburgh awards to 16 bronze and gold medal awardees at Government House. It will be the first time since 1994 that the Duke of Edinburgh has been on Island to distribute the awards.
Also on Wednesday, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will also tour Dockyard, seeing demonstrations by different groups and viewing the 400th anniversary mural at Commissioner's House.
During the visit to Dockyard the Duke of Edinburgh will also meet 13 students from the Bermuda Institute who are learning to sail aboard the Bermuda Sloop, The Spirit of Bermuda.
The Royal couple will leave Bermuda on Thursday.
