Man suffers head injuries in St. George's attack
A 31-year-old is in hospital with serious head wounds after he was set upon by a group of men only yards from his St. George's home.
It is believed Everest (EJ) Trott was walking alone when he was attacked near the Royal Artillery Association (RAA) club around 9 p.m. Sunday.
A 28-year-old St. George's man arrested in connection with the assault has been released on Police bail.
Yesterday, Mr. Trott's mother, Mona Lisa Trott, described the attack as "senseless".
"It's not a nice thing really. It's awful and evil, really. The good Lord is above and I believe that he sees everything and knows everything.
"It's senseless and hurts to think that people you associate with could do this to you."
A Police report on the incident said Mr. Trott was first treated at the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre before he was transferred to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH).
Yesterday he remained in stable condition on a general ward.
Helen Fabian said she believed her nephew was on his way home when he was attacked from behind in the vicinity of Grenadier Lane.
She said a passerby found Mr. Trott after the attack, and took him to the urgent care centre by motorbike.
Once at KEMH, he was operated on until about 1 a.m. for a cracked jaw and cuts sustained in the attack, according to Ms Fabian.
"I hope and pray he does tell the Police what happened," she said. "Everybody's upset because of how he was seriously cut."
And MP for St. George's North, Dame Jennifer Smith, said the attack would not cause her to give up hope on the goodness of Bermudians.
"St. George's, unfortunately, is not separate or apart from the rest of the Country. We continue to be saddened by the violence and seemingly senseless attacks currently taking place in Bermuda.
"However, we will not be discouraged; we continue to believe in the innate goodness of Bermudians.
"As legislators we move to strengthen and toughen laws so that those with responsibility for ensuring that there is law and order can perform their duties. As people of faith we continue to pray for those who have been touched, harmed or hurt by these activities."
Opposition Leader and MP for St. George's West, Kim Swan said: "The stabbing incident in St. George's on Sunday is of great concern to East End residents.
"For many of us it is close to home to have such a violent act. Where the wound threatens the life of another sends shock waves throughout our community. This on the heels of the violence that Bermuda has been experiencing in past months, it is safe to say many residents are becoming frustrated as these circumstances are becoming all too common.
"Our prayers are with the family of the victim."
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the St. George's Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.
