Let's make Somerset a fortress, urges skipper Scott

Somerset Trojans skipper Jelani Scott has called on his side to make Somerset Cricket Club a fortress when they host North Village in the league tomorrow night.

Trojans have played only one match at home this season, a 2-1 win over arch rivals Somerset Eagles, and will be looking to send a message to the rest of the league with a win over Dudley Eve champions, Village.

The West Enders' next two league fixtures are to be played at home and ex-Bermuda Hogges midfielder, Scott, has warned the rest of the league not to expect any gifts when they visit Somerset Cricket Club this season.

"Home games are always important because that's where you would expect to take all points and we have lost points in the last few games, so we will look to take advantage of our home field advantage," said Scott.

"It's a big game against a side that's in top form, so we need to be ready."

Scott has urged his team-mates to pick up as many points before the Christmas break as they look to avoid a relegation scrap in their first season back in the top-flight.

"Heading into the break we are definitely looking to take maximum points in all the games we play because we have lost points we should have not dropped during the first half of the season on the road," Scott said.

"We are certainly looking to take points from our remaining games and that would put us in a good position going into the second half."

With Scott recently returning to the side after getting married, the inspirational midfielder is ready to return to his swashbuckling ways in the engine room for the men from 'Silver City'.

"We have been ironing out a few things that we have been lacking in certain departments in terms of our play," he said.

"The coaches have been addressing specific things that will benefit us in the long run.

"When you look at our side and consider I'm one of the more senior players and also the captain, it's definitely important for me to get back in the swing of things.

"I really wasn't involved early in the season and as captain I feel I still play an important role in the team.

"So it's certainly a big thing for myself to get back in form to help my side in any way I can."

Trojans take on Village at 8 p.m. tomorrow night at Somerset Cricket Club.

The First Division match between St.David's and Prospect, scheduled to have been played at Somerset CC tomorrow night, has been postponed as both teams are in action on Sunday.

This weekend's other Premier Division fixtures see Southampton Rangers play Dandy Town at Southampton Oval, Hamilton Parish face Devonshire Colts at Wellington Oval, Somerset Eagles v PHC at White Hill.

Boulevard were due to play Devonshire Cougars at St.John's Field, but the Blazers hierarchy were due to meet with their landlords, Dandy Town, last night regarding an alleged assault of an Eagles player after last month's match between Blazers and Eagles at St.John's Field.

Last week's match between Blazers and Somerset Trojans was switched from St.John's Field to BAA Field.
