Southampton resort The Reefs is aiming to attract locals in the winter season with a package deal.

The package gives residents a discounted room rate inclusive of afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast for two as well as access to all amenities. The deal, which runs until the end of March, costs $279, which including tax and service charges totals $338.22.

Last Friday saw the beginning of a week-long roadside direct marketing campaign in which restaurant staff members handed out breakfast treats to South Shore drivers during morning rush hour, and canapés to those in evening traffic.

Director of operations at The Reefs, Perry Robinson, said: "It's unfortunate that these traffic lights have to be here on South Shore, but they've given us a chance to interact with customers in a way we don't ordinarily get to do, and to give people something unexpected. It's been a lot of fun and a great success."
