Terceira posts best Grand Prix finish
Bermuda Olympic show jumper, Jill Terceira, had her best ever result in a Grand Prix on the weekend when she placed second in the CSI three star Lummen Spring Tour in Belgium.
"I am very pleased with our performance," she said yesterday from Europe.
Terceira was riding her Olympic mount Chaka III over the 1.50 metre course – and Chaka proved that age has no barriers.
Chaka is 17-years-old and Terceira said: "What a good old boy Chaka is – 17 years young! That is my best placement ever in a Grand Prix.
"Of the 98 starters there were only two clear rounds in the first round and then I had to jump off against the winner. It was very exciting."
She of her Chaka: "He is in very good form.
"And as long as he is healthy, happy and jumping well we will continue to compete – and although I'm sure he is enjoying the competition I know he will also enjoy his break (soon)."
Terceira will take a rest from competition as she is pregnant but she hopes to be back in the saddle in October.
"I plan to do the CSI four star in Antwerp, Belgium this week and if I'm still feeling good then I will jump at CSIO four star in Lummen, Belgium the following week and that will be my last competition," she said adding that the outdoor season in Europe is now in full force.
Terceira is based in Holland and she and her husband, Belgian vet Michel Hayvaert, are expecting a baby in August.
Unfortunately she will be forced to miss the CAC Games in Puerto Rico and also the World Equestrian Games which she was hoping to qualify for – as has fellow Europe-based show jumper Patrick Nesbitt.
She has said that she still wanted to compete while pregnant as long as the weather is not bad and the footing is good.
Her horses will not be competing while she is on maternity leave, but they will be exercised.
She recently told The Royal Gazette: "At this moment I will rest the horses from competition during my time out – but they will continue to be exercised daily.
"I have a very good team who will ride the horses as well as occasionally lunging them. Also my husband, as always, will keep a good eye that they continue to stay healthy."
