Teen shot in Sandys
A teenager was shot after he got off a bus in Sandys, in the first of a series of reported gunshot incidents yesterday evening.
According to Police, a 19-year-old Sandys man was shot at 6.30 p.m. in the White Hill area.
Police said the victim had disembarked a public bus that made a stop at White Hill Field. The bus had been travelling towards the City of Hamilton. Police said in a statement that it was thought two people on a motorcycle fired at the teenager before riding away towards Somerset.
The teenager was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Uniformed officers taped of the area stretching from the bus stop south of Woodlawn Road to the north side of the Maximart Grocery store as they searched for evidence.
Traffic was diverted through the Railway trail, leading to severe congestion in the narrow road and long lines of stationary vehicles in both directions.
Some time later, gunshots were reported in the St. Monica's Road area.
Police vehicles blocked of an area of the road last night. Reporters from both ZBM News and The Royal Gazette went to the scene, but were told to leave by Police after angry residents began to lob small stones and beer bottles at the reporters.
A Police spokesperson was reached for comment, but had not responded as of press time.
A third gunfire incident was also reported yesterday evening in the Bernard Park area, but Police said they were unable to find any evidence of gunfire.
Police are interested in hearing from anyone with information about these events. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was on the bus that stopped at White Hill Field, Sandys, and anyone who was in the car park of the Maximart store at the time of the 6.30 p.m. shooting.
Anyone who was in that area or on the bus in question is urged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8106. Also, anyone that has information about any of the incidents can pass information anonymously to the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline at 800-8477.
