Police won't comment on alleged gun incident

A gun-toting man allegedly took aim at a Parks Department worker, in the second reported firearms incident this week.

The Government employee was said to be working in Somerset when the incident happened on Thursday afternoon.

A source said: "A car drove by and one of the men pointed a gun at him, and said, 'You shouldn't be in Somerset'."

He said it was not thought any shots were fired.

Both Government and the Bermuda Police Service refused to comment yesterday.

The employee is said to be a member of the Bermuda Industrial Union but BIU President Chris Furbert was unavailable last night.

A Police spokesman would only say: "The BPS are investigating this allegation. We are asking for anyone with any information to please contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295 0011 or the Crime Stoppers hot line on 1 800 623 8477."

The alleged incident is the second report of gun violence this week, following the shooting of a 19-year-old man in Paget on Tuesday.

The victim, whose name has not yet been confirmed by Police, was shot in the leg by a man on a motorbike in Tribe Road No. 5, near Ord Road.

The incident marked the 14th firearms incident of 2009.
