Trash truck snags cable
A garbage truck knocked out the power for more than 200 homes yesterday.
The Works and Engineering vehicle got caught up in wires in Pembroke, dragging down three street lighting poles in the process.
A Belco spokeswoman said: "A Government Works and Engineering trash truck got entangled in low-lying CableVision wires and about 230 customers were without power for about two-and-a-half hours.
"We had to turn power off so our workmen could work safely. The repairs are done now and the poles will be taken away and we will be erecting new ones."
Terry Roberson, Bermuda CableVision general manager, said: "At around 10.30 a.m., one of our construction technicians was advised by a Belco employee at the scene that poles were down in the Cedar Park, Old Military Road and Palmetto Road areas of Pembroke.
"The lines have now been repaired and service has been restored. We would like to apologise to our customers for the interruption in service caused by this incident and thank them for their patience."
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman confirmed last night: "There are no reported injuries."
