Coach Manders still upbeat

Disappointed Bermuda coach Arnold Manders refused to be too disheartened following his side's Intercontinental Shield hammering at the hands of Namibia.

Manders watched his side lose by an innings and 185 runs but still said that there was reason to be optimistic for the future of the national team.

And while the coach acknowledged that there were things Bermuda needed to work on, he also said they were areas that had been identified before the game started.

"There were some good things, some bad things, and yes we were beaten by a better team," said Manders. "But looking at it, there are things we have to work on, and obviously we have to play this version of the game a lot more, the guys are not used to it.

"The bowling let us down, I was disappointed at a couple of things but I would say I am optimistic about the future of this team, anyway.

"They're closely knit, they're willing to learn, there are little things that we have to work on, which we knew before we left Bermuda."

For Manders the main disappointment was the manner in which Bermuda's batting collapsed on two occasions . . . although he did say that the rustiness in the squad had also played its part in the defeat.

"We had guys that got set, and then gave their wickets away," he said. "And there were a few easy dropped catches that cost us a lot, but not being in season, sometimes you have to give them a little leeway."

Meanwhile, Namibia coach Johan Rudolph was delighted with his team's performance and said that they could only get better.

"There is a lot of potential, there is a lot of talent in this side," he said. "We lack maybe in one or two departments, definitely we need another front line bowler, but the future looks bright.

"The first two sessions Bermuda had the upper hand, and they just let it go. I'm very happy, we had two bowlers who took five wickets, there were three hundreds, and we said we only wanted to bat once.

"So we achieved that also, we only dropped one catch and the overall standard of our fielding and the bowling was really good."
