Pearl Smith named Glamorous Granny for 2009
Grandmothers representing senior groups from across the Island strutted their stuff as they vied for the title of 'Glamorous Granny' on Friday.
The 12th annual Glamorous Granny Pageant saw nine contestants ranging from 69 to 81 years of age. The women were judged in several categories including poise, personality, cheerfulness and dress.
Health Minister Walter Roban crowned Pearl Smith, 72, as the winner. Mirion Smith, 81, was named the first runner up, followed by Cora Washington, 78, and Dorothy Ebbin, 75.
The reigning 'Glamorous Granny', Joan Dismont, handed over her crown and sash in front of a packed house at the Cathedral Hall in Hamilton.
As the winner of the pageant, Mrs. Smith will act as an ambassador for the senior community.
She will have the responsibility of representing seniors across the Island at official functions and events like the Premier's Tea and the Bermuda Day Parade.
