History comes alive at hotel over the holiday weekend

Fairmont Hamilton Princess will conduct its annual history tour over the Bermuda Day weekend where spies, royalty and colourful characters will come to life.

The hotel will also commemorate its landmark anniversary with the release of six limited edition works that include handcrafted jewellery, Bermuda jams, rum cakes, note cards, scarves and an anniversary cocktail.

General Manager John Crellin said: "Creativity and ingenuity have fuelled Bermuda for centuries and the same is true of this hotel. Inviting our local artists to interpret the hotel's anniversary seemed especially fitting and allows us the privilege of showcasing their talents."

Those who submitted works include Jacquie Lohan, Joel McDonnell, Grant Kennedy, Linda and Ellen Horton and Lee Tucker.

A special pink rum cake was created by Linda Horton and her daughters.

The history tour of the grand hotel will take place on Saturday, May 22 at 2 p.m. and will be led by Bermuda tour guide and historian Tim Rogers.

The tour, which lasts about 45 minutes, will take participants as far back as the late 1800s when personalities and world events irrevocably shaped the history of the hotel and the country.

It is free and open to the public without reservations.

Those wishing to stay for the hotel's 125th anniversary afternoon tea with champagne are asked to call 298-5779 for reservations and information.

Additional history tours will be held on June 19, July 17 and August 14.
