Board of Education duo's return is welcomed
Shadow Education Minister Grant Gibbons has applauded the return of chairman Darren Johnston and his deputy Vince Ingham to the Board of Education.
The pair reportedly resigned from their posts in October new Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith announced their return on Wednesday.
Dr. Gibbons said: "We are pleased Dame Jennifer has managed to convince Mr. Johnston and Mr. Ingham to remain on the board.
"Both are capable individuals who have a lot to offer in guiding the education reform process."
Dr. Gibbons has expressed concern about a lack of continuity in leadership. He said Wednesday's announcement brings some stability to the reform process.
Previous chairman Mark Byrne resigned after six months in the role, claiming there was a "lack of political will" to improve the Island's public schools.
Mr. Johnston and Mr. Ingham resigned after just over a year in their posts.
They were reportedly upset because they'd been kept out of the loop about the possible consolidation of Government schools an idea then-Education Minister El James had shared with the press.
Mr. James' permanent secretary, Kevin Monkman, has been moved and is now permanent secretary for Health.
He is replaced by Warren Jones, who had held that position.
Mr. Johnston told The Royal Gazette: "The transformation of the education system is complex, and it is important for those leading it to be aligned.
"We believe the experience and commitment of the Minister of Education Dame Jennifer Smith, coupled with the energy and enthusiasm of our board, represent the right synergy to effect the changes we are seeking to make.
"Our decision to return was an easy one and the right one. Our mandate is clear, and we both are moving on with our students' success in mind."
