Digicel's half-year profits climb 10%
Bermuda-based Digicel yesterday announced a 10 percent increase in its half-year profit to $364 million on rising revenue and more subscribers.
The cellular provider, which operates in 32 markets across the Caribbean, Central America and the South Pacific, including Bermuda, said it added 98,000 subscibers in the third quarter of this year.
Over the past 12 months, the company said it had increased its subscriber base by seven percent to 7.3 million.
Digicel Group CEO Colm Delves said: "These results demonstrate a strong start to the financial year with Digicel increasing profits and subscribers even in a tough economic climate."
Digicel's revenues for the six months to September 30 were $857 million - growing three percent in constant currency terms.
The company's profit was expressed in terms of earnings before tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA).
During September, Digicel announced the acquisition of Orange Dominica, a subsidiary of France Telecom.
