Season of success for Daniels
Terrence Daniels will be looking to continue his climb up the amateur golf ladder after his qualification for the US Amateurs opened doors for tournaments the youngster didn't think he would be allowed to play in.
With seven holes remaining in the US Amateur Sectional Qualifier, Daniels birdied five consecutive holes to finish the second round of the 36-hole qualifier with a 5-under-par 67 to earn one of four spots for the Championships to be held in Washington.
The result was one of Daniels main priorities heading into the summer having already completed the first hurdle, the Bermuda Strokeplay Championships, while also looking forward to the World Amateurs on the horizon.
"A lot of the tournaments I wasn't sure I would get exemption to, but now with the qualification, I am able to play at more tournaments with this so I will try and get out to play as much as I can.
"I'm proud of what I did, I came into the summer with two goals and accomplished them both with the win at the Bermuda Strokeplay win and qualifying for the World Amateur team in October and this was the second, qualifying for the US Amateur.
"I know that if I could shoot a 68 or 69 I would be able to get back into contention and after the eight hole I was two under before bogeying the ninth, so I made the turn at one under.
"I parred ten and I knew I was losing time so I kicked into gear in order to get something done, and I birdied the next five.
"I played it safe on the last hole which I bogeyed, but I was confident five under was good enough to get in."
Daniels, the two-time Pacific West Conference Player of the Year, two-round total of 139 tied two others for low scores, whilst the fourth qualifier shot 140.
He wrapped up his senior season at GCU with a victory in the 2010 PacWest Championships. He was runner-up, losing in a playoff, in 2008.
With a few weeks of relaxation and time to reflect on his achievements, Daniels has set his sights on playing in Arizona, where he has lived and attended university, while also preparing for the World Amateurs.
"Going forward, after the World Amateurs in Argentina, I'll fly back to Arizona where I have been living and going to school, and hopefully getting a job at a golf course while still playing a bunch of amateurs."
