Hurricane Danielle is now expected to pass 125 miles to the east of Island
Seas are expected to rise to more than 20 feet with gusts up to 45 knots as Hurricane Danielle passes to the south-east of the Island over the weekend.
Bermuda Weather Service yesterday described the storm as a potential threat to Bermuda; it's likely to grow in strength and reach Category Two tomorrow.
Danielle's closest point to Bermuda is set to be Sunday afternoon when it passes 125 miles to the east. Last night, the weather service said it would be 214 miles to the south east on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Duty forecaster Ken Smith said: "It's a potential threat to Bermuda. Right now, people could watch it and prepare. There's no warning now, but we will probably issue a tropical storm warning at some point."
While the storm was heading straight towards the Island, it is expected an upper trough to the north of Bermuda will force it towards the east.
Another tropical system, Tropical Storm Earl, may also steer towards the Island.
Forecasts suggest that the system could become a hurricane by this weekend, but it is too far away to affect the Island until some time next week.
