A total of 1256 arrests were made by the Police in the three months from June to September.

That was ten more than the same time last year, but 67 fewer than the previous quarter. Half the arrests were of people wanted on a court warrant, 90 percent of those arrested were black and 91 percent were Bermudian.

Four of the people detained were wanted for murder, and seven for gun offences. More than ten percent of the individuals were arrested more than once and five people were arrested four times or more. There were, on average, 100 people per week arrested in Bermuda during the third quarter.

Meanwhile stop and searches are at an all-time high, averaging around 140 people per week during the third quarter. They have been on the rise since September 2008 when Police got new powers to conduct the searches.
