Butterfield slips 5%
A fall of more than five percent in the value of Butterfield Bank shares drove local stocks lower last week.
The bank fell eight cents, or 5.4 percent, to $1.41, as 17,930 shares changed hands.
The biggest faller of the week, however, was Stevedoring Services Ltd., whose shares lost more than a third of their value.
Stevedoring slipped $2.35, or 34.3 percent, to $4.50, as 4,000 of its shares traded.
Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd., the owner of this newspaper, as well as other publishing, printing, retail and real estate concerns, recorded an even bigger swing, but in a positive direction.
The company soared 39.5 percent on low trading volume, as its share price gained $3.40 to close the week on $12. Eight hundred shares were exchanged.
Two utilities companies had a positive week. Ascendant Group Ltd., owner of electricity company Belco, rose 49 cents, or 3.4 percent, to close the week on $14.99, as 2,760 shares traded.
Telecommunications group KeyTech Ltd. gained 1.1 percent, as its shares rose eight cents to close on $7.10.
Insurer BF&M Ltd. rose 24 cents, or 1.8 percent, to $13.25, on the trading of 242 shares.
The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange Index fell 29.78 points, or 2.4 percent, to end Friday on 1,234.43.
Trading volume topped 37,400, while turnover was just shy of $197,000.
