Tucker's bitter attack on BFA

Derek Broadley yesterday declined to respond to recent comments made by retired national coach Keith Tucker who took a parting jab at the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) technical director.

During a hastily arranged BFA press conference held last Saturday at Bermuda College ex-Crystal Palace academy director Broadley announced Tucker's resignation.

And also said: "Moving forward, I have appointed Kenny Thompson as head coach (of senior national team) until the end of the Digicel (Cup) Tournament which takes place in August."

It had been announced during the press conference that Tucker had resigned by "mutual consent".

A euphamism in football for being sacked.

And yesterday the ex-Howard Academy coach appeared to disagree with the official version of events and questioned Boadley's credentials to even serve in the capacity as BFA technical director.

"He (Broadley) doesn't have any international experience and he's come here to be technical director," said the former national coach.

"We first talked about this guy Simoes from Jamaica (former Reggea Boyz coach Rene Simoes) with all his experience and we go from there to Derek – that sounds like a story to me.

"I'm not sure if he's the right person or the wrong person.

"He's got the job and right now you reporters have got to make sure that he makes that $125,000 work for the people of Bermuda."

When contacted in Trinidad yesterday, Broadley told The Royal Gazette: "I'm not sure what Mr Tucker said in the article and obviously without seeing it it would be foolish of me to make any comments at this time."

Local football's governing body also chose to distance themselves from Tucker's recent comments.

"We the Bermuda Football Association family of football wish Keith Tucker all the best and at the same time reserve the right not to comment on the story," read a brief BFA statement.
