Rabain sparks unbeaten Wildcats

Led by centre Ryan Rabain, the unbeaten Wildcats took an early 14-4 lead over the Flyers and took advantage of their opponents' dismal shooting early on to run away with a comfortable win.Although the Wildcats' leading scorer Steven Simons was quiet for most of the first half, the side were able to rely on Rabain to pick up the slack and dominate in the paint.

Led by centre Ryan Rabain, the unbeaten Wildcats took an early 14-4 lead over the Flyers and took advantage of their opponents' dismal shooting early on to run away with a comfortable win.

Although the Wildcats' leading scorer Steven Simons was quiet for most of the first half, the side were able to rely on Rabain to pick up the slack and dominate in the paint.

Flyers' centre Jonathan Lowe attempted to keep his team close, scoring ten points in the first half, but as the Flyers struggled from the field, Smith's capitalised on Somerset shooting woes and went into the second half with a 32-18 lead.

In the second half, Somerset pulled within their closest point margin since the early minutes after a pair of baskets forward Demitri Butterfield with 12 minutes remaining, but Wildcats regained their composure after calling a time-out and went back to feeding Rabain.

Despite Lowe's dominant performance, his team-mates continued to struggle to find their offence.

Somerset did manage to pull within eight with five minutes remaining. But Wildcats pushed their lead back to double digits and never looked back.

Rabain ended with 23 points while Lowe finished with 22 for Somerset.

Paget's Chris Crumpler showed no signs of rust in his return from a two-game absence but was unable to power his side to the finish line as they lost a thrilling game to champions Hamilton Parish Chargers.

Despite Crumpler's explosive performance, the Chargers were able to capitalise on a series of costly turnovers by Paget and took a 14-point lead with five minutes remaining in the first half.

With one minute remaining in the first half, Chargers saw their 16-point lead evaporate after Crumpler went coast to coast for an easy lay-up, followed by two long distance three pointers in the closing seconds to cut the lead to eight points.

In the second half, the Chargers came out of the gate running with Smith finding team-mates Calvert Lee and Lavar Powell for two uncontested lay-ups to push his team's lead back to double digits.

With three minutes remaining in the game, the Chargers had a comfortable 15-point lead and looked to have the game wrapped up when Crumpler began to explode, scoring eight points in one minute.

With 15 seconds left, Crumpler received the ball and attacked the left side of the rim scoring an acrobatic lay-up to tie the game at 64.

In overtime, it was Chargers who came out on top by just one point to keep their play-off hopes alive.

Smith finished with 19 points for the Chargers, while Crumpler ended with 41.

Missing their captain John Lee, the struggling Dragons held on to beat the streaking Tsunamis in another match that went to the wire.

In the final minute of the first half, Tsunamis went on an 8-0 run to take a 24-22 lead going into the second half where the teams continued to trade baskets.

Key offensive rebounds by Tsunamis' centre Gregg Todd gave his team additional possessions to put the ball in the basket, and they managed to push their lead to eight with five minutes remaining.

Dill would continue his hot shooting from the first half to bring his team within two with two minutes remaining.

In the final minute of action, a costly turnover by the Tsunamis resulted in a transition basket by the Dragons and saw the scored tied 49-49.

With 20 seconds remaining, Todd would clean up his team-mates miss with a tip-in at the basket to give his team a two-point lead with eight seconds remaining.

With the final possession of the game, Dragons put the ball in the hands of their leading scorer Dill as time ran down on the clock.

As Dill drove to the basket, he was bombarded by three Tsunami defenders and kicked the ball out to Leyde St. Ledger who connected from the three point arc as time expired to upset the Tsunamis at the buzzer.

Dill ended with 28 points and Todd scored 13 for the Tsunamis.
