Bermuda 2009 Committee praised in Parliament
The Minister of Culture and Social Rehabilitation applauded the Bermuda 2009 Committee for making the Island's 400th anniversary a success.
Neletha Butterfield praised the committee in the House of Assembly on Friday.
"It would be difficult to find someone in Bermuda who does not know about the 400th anniversary, thanks in large measure to the Bermuda 2009 logo, which has been seen just about everywhere," she said.
"The Bermuda 2009 Committee is to be highly commended for what has truly been a spectacular year of celebrations."
More than 150 events, projects, exhibits, lectures, performing and visual arts productions, literary works and films have been produced as part of anniversary celebrations.
Ms Butterfield also labelled a success the Historical Heartbeats Lecture Series.
She told the House of Assembly: "I am pleased to report that most of the talks were over-subscribed, with those keen to participate grabbing their tickets a full month in advance."
The series featured presentations by local historian Clarence Maxwell, University of Rochester Professor Michael Jarvis, conservation officer Jeremy Madeiros and storyteller John Cox.
One lecture was held each month between April and October, with topics ranging from jazz to haunted houses.
