Richardson trying to revive shell cricket

that youth cricket is properly organized next year has led to a recent meeting with the organizers Shell.

Shell representative El James yesterday confirmed that the company had held a meeting with Richardson, who has been severely critical of the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control for their apparant lack of interest in the tournament, but James was re luctant to discuss the meeting.

"We did meet with Mr. Richardson and all I can say is that regardless of who runs the tournament, it will have to be sanctioned by the board. We are the sponsors and only want to see a good tournament run for the Bermuda youngsters,'' said James.

Because of his concern over the running of the tournament, which is generally agreed has been poorly run in the last three years since Shell scaled down their involvement, Richardson had written to the organizers and informed them that he was prepared to form a new group to run the competition.

Richardson explained that he was upset because several teams had not even been able to play a single game because of poor planning by the board. He is optimistic, however, that things will improve next year.

"There are many of us who really do not care who runs it, we just want to see something decent arranged that will benefit all of those youngsters who would like to be involved in a programme for the summer,'' said Richardson.

The troubles of the tournament were highlighted on Saturday when Southampton Rangers could only field seven players for the final against St. David's at Sea Breeze Oval which they lost convincingly.
