during last month's heavy rains will get underway early next month.

Works and Engineering Minister Alex Scott said the work would take about four weeks, depending on weather conditions.

Meanwhile measures have been taken and will remain in place, he said. These include removing any loose material from the rock face, building a fence at the top, closing the road to one lane and installing traffic lights.

Mr. Scott said parts of the cliff collapsed after tree roots pried the rock away from its base and allowed water to seep in and loosen it further.

Engineers from the department assessed the rock face and determined a way to stabilise the large concrete wall on top of the cliff and the rock face itself.

He noted that the repairs would involve more than the typical stabilising methods normally used in such situations as special consideration had to be given to two homes located near the top of the cliff.

Mr. Scott expressed regret for any inconvenience experienced by the public and thanked everyone for their patience and co-operation in complying with the traffic lights in the area.

He stressed that repairing the rock face had remained on the Ministry's list of priorities in spite of Hurricane Gert's passage near the Island which caused numerous other rock instabilities.
