Coaches, refs talk it over
improve relationships between the two.
It is hoped both groups will come to a better understanding about their respective roles, particularly in pressure situations.
Spearheading the initiative are Stuart Crockwell, president of the Bermuda Referees Association, and Mark Trott, coach of First Division side Dandy Town.
"It would be a positive thing to do, that's for sure. If we don't try it we cannot gain anything,'' said Trott.
Crockwell added: "It will definitely benefit everybody involved in the sport of soccer.'' No definite date has been set for the meeting, but it is hoped that something can be finalised for the middle of next week.
"I said it was a good idea from the time that Stuart and I first chatted,'' said Trott. "It's a good idea for the coaches and the referees to be on the same wavelength. The more both parties work together the better it will be for the game.
"Who knows, you may find fewer guys getting sent off; players will be improve the relationship between everybody.'' Trott said that his team had used referees in this manner during pre-season matches. He had Esten Curtis, Crockwell and Lyndon Raynor to meet his players and discuss rule changes.
No incident had precipitated the plan for a meeting, he said. Rather, the idea had come up on the spur of the moment.
"I would like to encourage all referees and coaches to come out and support the idea, join up in this friendly talk. There could be a misconception about a law that can be clarified,'' he said.
"Rules and regulations are continuously being updated, and the referees are the ones who are always appraised of any changes.''
