Lionel out for month
after aggravating a groin injury he first got playing football for Dandy Town last season.
But the talented youngster is hoping his inability to train with the national cricket squad will not ruin his chances of gaining selection for ICC team in the new year.
The squad of 30 will be reduced to 25 on October 14 before the final 16 is selected at the end of November, by which time Cann should be back in training.
"I can't train until after the 25 is picked,'' Cann told The Royal Gazette last night. "I'll be out for at least another four weeks.'' Picking up injuries is the main reason why the BCBC have insisted that players bidding for ICC places not participate in football for at least the first half of the upcoming season.
Cann did not play in his team's knockout semi final against Devonshire last weekend though he did turn out for the team the following day. "I had it all bandaged up,'' the 20 year old explained.
"I bowled from just two steps but it is still sore and I just have to rest it.
"It was the Sunday after Cup Match that I started feeling it all over again, but it wasn't fully pulled until two weeks after that in the county game against Bailey's Bay when it just went completely.
"This injury is coming at a bad moment because now is the time I should be ready for the squad. I'm really looking forward to furthering my cricket.''
