No drugs were found on the yacht, but he was flown to Atlanta, Georgia because there was a US federal warrant out for his arrest.

It was not the first time Mr. Madeiros has been arrested while skippering a yacht.

Following a Supreme Court trial in 1988, Mr. Madeiros was cleared of charges of importing to Bermuda some $20,000 worth of marijuana, which had been found stashed on board the yacht Fabella , which he had sailed with other crew to the Island from Florida. He had been on the way to England, but had to stop in Bermuda to repair damage caused by rough weather.
